Word order

1 min read · 113 words

The basic word order is SVO (subject-verb-object) for example: Yo am la pastǝ "I like pasta". But if the subject is third person and NOT a pronoun, it will move after the verb making the sentence VSO (verb-subject-object).

Adjectives go after the noun except for vuon (good), mal (bad), atr (other), nuov (new) and the ordinal numbers. Other modifiers (except relative clauses) go after the noun they modify, for example prepositions, determiners and numerals.

Auxiliary and subordinate verbs go before the main verb. Adverbs go before verbs and before adjectives. Interrogative words go at the start of the sentence.

African is pro-drop meaning that the subject pronouns can be omitted from the phrase.
