Pronouns

1 min read · 175 words

The pronouns are the only African words that have cases. The pronoun chart can be seen in the paradigm category.

In their subject form, pronoun are independent words that can be dropped without changing the meaning of the sentence. In their object forms they are clitics attached to verbs, if so the ending of the verb can change: the second singular, first and second plural endings add a -s; if the verb form ends in an -ǝ it will change to an -a; and the first person singular of the present tense adds an -o.

If a pronoun clitic is attached to an infinitive of a 3rd conjugation or penultimate stress 4rd conjugation verb, its ending will change from "-r/-ir" to "-er " (except if it ends in -rr).

If there are is both a direct and indirect object attached to a verb, the direct object must go first, followed by the indirect object.

If a pronoun is the object of a preposition, it will take its indirect object form but as an independent word.
